Understand Earth’s natural processes and products
Geoscience looks at how the physical, chemical and biological forces form and reshape the Earth. You develop a three-dimensionalunderstanding of the inside of the Earth from mountain belts to mineral crystals.
How do we work with the Earth?
Geoscientists explorefornatural resources, like metal ores, industrial minerals and fossil fuels. They map and monitor changes in nature, from landscapes and climate to the Earth system as a whole. As a geoscientist you’llexplore new resources, unlock the potential of new landscapes, and return the environment to its original state.
You’ll learn to interpret the landscape and its hazards—monitoring, evaluating, correcting and eliminating large scale issues such as landslides, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and flooding. You’ll work with the landscape to ensure that plans are not in conflict with natural hazards and environmental processes.
Your outdoor classroom and career
Your courses willtake you out of the classroomand onto the beaches around Victoria. You’ll learn field and lab work, and hands-on field based science.
As a geoscientist, you’llspend your time outside and around the world. You’ll leave your office and desk behind as you explore the earth and learn about its past and attempt to predict its future.
