Learning in the Makerspace

Explore new ways to create, design, and learn in the Makerspace.

Workshops

Sign-up for our beginner-friendly workshops that will provide a deeper understanding of how to use Makerspace equipment and software, and the important considerations needed to get your next project off the ground.

  • 3D modeling workshop: Learn how to 3D model using Tinkercad and make your own design ready to 3D Print.
  • 2D design workshop: Learn vector design basics for laser cutting, embroidery and vinyl cutting.
  • Podcasting basics: Get started with your next podcasting project! Learn about how to set up, plan and record your podcast in a variety of settings.

Orientations

Sign up and get familiar with the makerspace by attending a tour or orientation. After taking these guided experiences you will feel confident requesting services, understanding policies, and how to tools and technology safely.

  • Tours: Get started by visiting us in the Makerspace! Bring your class or friends for a tour. Tours are a great way to learn more about all the features of the Makerspace, ask questions, and imagine new ways to learn and create. Larger groups (5+) are encouraged to register in online.
  • Safety:Take 15 - 20 minutes to learn about safety protocols in the Makerspace! Participants will read and sign the safety acknowledgement form after completing the tour and will receive a card to verify completion. It is mandatory to take the safety orientation before using the Makerspace tools and equipment for your project.
  • Machine: Learn how to use machines in the makerspace! These hands-on orientations are 30-45 mins. Materials are provided.
    • Sewing machine orientation
    • Embroidery machine orientation
  • Demos: These hands-on demos are 5- 15 mins and will help smooth out the learning curve with the following technologies. Materials are provided.
    • Knitting
    • 3D Pens
    • VR

Events

  • Campus life days pop-up:Explore hands-on making and tech in the Makerspace with the ̽ Student Society, every third Wednesday of the month,from 10am to 2pm at the Lansdowne Campus (Wilna Thomas 216).
  • Wellness Wednesdays: Counselling Services and the Makerspace are partnering to provide a safe space for students to connect with peers. Every second Wednesday of the month drop by the Makerspace from 10:30am to 12:30pm at the Lansdowne Campus (Wilna Thomas 216).

Self-directed learning

Learn the basics of Makerspace technology and software at your own pace.

Asynchronous Podcasting workshop
